Genres ~ Contemporary Romance

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katee Robert delivers the next book in her sizzling O’Malleys family series, hailed as “The Godfather meets Romeo & Juliet.” FORBIDDEN PROMISES features Sloan O’Malley and her mysterious new next-door neighbor, Jude MacNamara.

Some lines should never be crossed . . . not even for love.

Sloan O’Malley just left her entire world behind-her family, her wealth, and even her real name. For the first time in her life, she’s free. She can live the “normal” life she’s always wanted. A life without fear. But there’s nothing safe about her intensely sexy next-door neighbor.

Jude MacNamara has no room for innocence in his life. Only revenge. Still, he’s never been able to walk away from the forbidden, and Sloan–who is every inch of pure, mouthwatering temptation–has forbidden written all over her. Only after it’s way too late does he discover the real danger: claiming Sloan as his puts a target on her back. To protect her, Jude is willing risk everything . . . and to hell with the consequences.

I am cheering Sloan’s move of leaving her mob family behind. This mousey woman finally allows her backbone to come out in this book #4 of the O’Malley series showing the reader a woman who finally comes into her own. The author slowly unravels Sloan’s hard won independence and it is done with great finesse keeping the reader interested in how this book will end. The reader will continually cheer each time she overcomes another obstacle.

For all those readers, out there who like alpha men, meet Jude MacNamara. Just wow! That being said I was quite mesmerized with the thought of how the author could turn this stone killer into a man worthy of Sloan or any women for that fact. Bravo…..job well done. I came to love Jude and become his staunchest fan.

Sloan’s family members are very prominent in this book and her sister Keira is one out of control girl. When her story comes, it will be explosive because with all of her problems I can’t help thinking it will get real messy before it’s done. Her older brother seems to pull on my heart strings. I keep justifying what he does no matter how bad and the next book will be his story and I am excited for it to come out.

As in the previous book to this series the reader will be amazed at how the author through a series of wicked twists and turns come to a resolution that is very satisfying. For this reason, I give it 4-1/2 STARS.

New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Katee Robert learned to tell her stories at her grandpa’s knee.

Her 2015 title, The Marriage Contract, was a RITA finalist, and RT Book Reviews named it ‘a compulsively readable book with just the right amount of suspense and tension.”  When not writing sexy contemporary and romantic suspense, she spends her time playing imaginary games with her children, driving her husband batty with what-if questions, and planning for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.

REVIEW of the exciting ~ turned by a TIGER by Felicity Heaton

Sportochick’s Musings ~ Author Felicity Heaton continues to dazzle the readers with this 12th book to the Eternal Mates series.

turned by a TIGER
Eternal Mates #12
by Felicity Heaton

Find The Book At ~ Amazon | B&N | Goodreads
Genres ~ Paranormal Romance

On the verge of bleeding out and hunted by his merciless torturers, Talon has no choice but to seek sanctuary at Underworld, a nightclub run by a jaguar shifter liable to kill him on sight for being a tiger shifter male. What he finds in the old warehouse isn’t the grim shadow of Death though but an angel of mercy, one who offers him salvation and revenge—one who happens to be his fated mate.

Tending bar at Underworld is never dull when you’re a mortal surrounded by immortals, but when a gorgeous tiger shifter covered in blood stumbles into the club, and set’s fire to her boss’s temper, Sherry’s entire world is in danger of being turned on its head. Something about the mysterious warrior has her stepping in to save him, something that ignites her heart and stirs her soul, and no matter how fiercely she fights it, she can’t hold herself back.

When Talon reveals the name of his captors, and his plan to head back in to save his friends, will Sherry be brave enough to embrace the feelings he stirs in her and step deeper into the world of immortals? And will Talon be strong enough to resist the lure of Sherry to protect his family’s secret or will he risk everything to claim his eternal mate?

Author Felicity Heaton continues to dazzle the readers with this 12th book to the Eternal Mates series. I have read this whole series and it is quite unique how she continually writes each book with such detail as well as blending in characters from earlier books of this series. There is nothing repetitive about her books and I look forward to each new story with anticipation.

In this story, Sherry is the female primary character and it is good to finally read her story. The fact that she finds someone to defend and standup for ties in with what we have come to know about her personality in previous books. She displays both uncertainness and strength in a manner that is believable for the reader grabbing their attention and creating a desire for her to have a happy ending.

Sexy Talon is larger than life in not only what he survives but how he goes forward to help others even at the risk of death for himself. He is portrayed as someone needing redemption for what he believes is his failures. I like his commitment to make right his supposed wrongs also his strength to endure everything coming at him. If any hero deserves to be loved it is this tiger.

I give it 4 stars for the great ending and all the emotions it brought out while I read it.

REVIEW Blaze by Donna Grant

Sportochick’s Musings ~ This is by far one of the parts that I love about the author, Donna Grant’s writing. She always brings in previous series creating a larger world for the reader.

Blaze

Dark Kings #11

by Donna Grant

Find The Book At ~ Amazon | B&N | Goodreads | Audible
Publisher ~ St. Martin’s Press Romance
Genres ~ Paranormal Romance

His strength, his masculinity brought out something primal within her. In his arms, she felt like the Amazon warrior she’d once pretended to be as a little girl.

Anson is a fierce Dragon King, a dragon shapeshifter born and bred to protect his own. But when a rogue tech company hacks into their world, he must join forces with the unlikeliest of allies: a human female. Her name is Devon Abrams. A rising star at the firm, she has no idea that her boss is in league with the sinister Fae and their secret war against humanity. If Anson gains her trust, he can defeat the enemy from within. But first he must fight his own attraction—to this exquisitely beautiful mortal…

Devon loves her job at the firm. But sometimes she wishes she could find a man—a real man—who isn’t threatened by her success. When she first meets Anson, she’s overwhelmed by his powerful masculine presence and disarmingly gorgeous smile. But when he reveals his true mission—and his ability to transform into a dragon—she’s irresistibly drawn into an epic battle between humans and immortals, magic and technology, danger and desire. Anson vows to protect her from the Fae. But can he control the flames of passion that blaze within his heart?

In the beginning I wasn’t sure if Devon would be a strong enough primary female character for this book but she had a quiet strength about her that was refreshing and created a no-nonsense type feeling as she moved through this story. Readers will come to admire her and how she deals with all the unusual and scary things that begin to happen to her.

Mr. I don’t need help, Anson, comes across as not caring or involved in what is happening but don’t let this fool you. As a primary male character, he is continually evolving throughout the story showing him as caring and compassionate as well as angry and violent. The author does a phenomenal job of slowly letting his softer side come out while keeping the tension present.

This book has most of the characters from previous books to this series so it feels like home while you are reading. You learn a little more about Rhi and Con’s lost relationship and you get to see more of the Evil Ulrick and his uncle. For me, Rhi’s part in this book just keeps her pain up upfront and personal regarding her breakup with Con, constantly tearing at the hole in my heart when I think of them losing each other.

Also, woven into the story are characters from the Dark Sword series and the newer Reaper series. This is by far one of the parts that I love about the author, Donna Grant’s writing. She always brings in previous series creating a larger world for the reader. I have read every book of these three series and many of her other series. How many have you read?

Because of the uniqueness of Anson and Devon’s story I give this 4.5 Stars.

Review: A Counterfeit Heart

A Counterfeit Heart
A Counterfeit Heart by K.C. Bateman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Resourceful strong woman has always interested me and this book shines with the primary female character of Sabine de la Tour. The opening chapter does a lot to setup Sabine for the reader and throughout the book the reader will be enthralled by her multi-faceted personality. Her interaction with Richard Hampden, Viscount Lovell, is filled with twists and turns keeping the reader engrossed in the story.

Poor Richard he thinks he is in charge but throughout the book Sabine sends him on a merry chase causing him to finally meet his match. Of course, I do like when a strong alpha man is thwarted occasionally and his frustration of losing control is priceless. The reader is given a glimpse of what makes him tick so they understand why he is so insistent about Philippe Lacorte helping the English.

Both primary characters are well developed and the constant verbal sparring between them will make the reader smile in anticipation of how or if they will unite. For this reason, I give it 4 stars.

Review: The Highland Commander

The Highland Commander
The Highland Commander by Amy Jarecki
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another masquerade…oh I love masquerade’s. The rest of the story following the masquerade is very exciting, full of lots of secrets as well as intrigue. The author continues her The Lords of the Highlands Series with another well written book that will keep the reader enthralled till the last page.

From the beginning chapter where the author sets up the meeting between Navy lieutenant Aiden Murray and Lady Magdalen Keith the reader will have a wild rollercoaster ride as the plot continually evolves. Both characters are fully developed with the most unusual personalities that really caught my attention.

At one point the reader will wonder if there will ever be a resolution to this tricky situation but slowly they will see the light at the end of the tunnel and in the end the reader will be satisfied. For this reason I give it 4 stars.

Review: The Untamed Vampire

The Untamed Vampire
The Untamed Vampire by Kate Baxter
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Everyone loves a vampire story and especially a very unusual one. Well this one fills the need.

Chelle is quite determined to get her answers and along the way she learns a lot about herself and her relationship to others. Of the two main characters she has the greatest growth in her outlook of life and her belief about soul mates.

Gunnar is the typical in-charge alpha with a twist. He really cares about the people in his pack and always tries to find the good in all they do and are, while keeping their traditions. But…… he really doesn’t want Chelle in his life because of the pack traditions.

The author does a supreme job of showing the struggles these two have with their belief systems and what they want out of life as well as how vampires, werewolves, berserkers and Sortiari start to pick sides in a war for power.

I give this 4 stars for showing the reader how to handle long standing belief systems in todays world.

Review: Lord of Pleasure

Lord of Pleasure
Lord of Pleasure by Erica Ridley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I love the first chapter that enlightens the reader to Lord Wainwright ‘s character. I found it highly amusing, his discomfort at all the caricatures of him and his ummm… activities. It was the perfect beginning to this distinct book which also introduces his friends, Lord Hawkridge and Gideon and sets up the premise to this story where Michael wagers to change his image in 40 days.

Camellia has my complete compassion regarding her feelings towards her fathers decision on her future life and husband. How she reacts to the news and what she does next makes this a very eventful story.

For secondary characters her sister Dahlia is very forward for her time and she adds the needed spark to this story by forcing Camellia out to the masquerade ball because their sister Bryony can’t go. Don’t you just love those sisters who push you into trouble? For your own good or so they say. Now Bryony really is the wild one in my opinion and I can’t wait to see more books to this series with both of these sisters.

I have decided I want to go to a mask ball just like the one Camellia did because the author did such a great job of keeping it exciting and intriguing for the reader. How she unfolds the story between Camellia and Michael Rutland, Earl of Wainwright is priceless.

I recommend this book to readers who are looking for an out of the ordinary read and give it 3.5 stars.
